Ordinary Ledger: the litre that ignored the barrel
Brent fell about a dollar. German and Austrian heating-oil quotes barely budged, because gasoil had not finished giving back Friday's jump. Your dealer still quotes your postcode.
Monday’s ordinary ledger is short on purpose.
Screen. Brent at midday about $108.71, roughly a dollar below Friday’s close, after the US waived new Graham Act duties on Russia-related energy trade1. WTI near $101.261.
Hedge. Gasoil, the contract heating-oil dealers watch, about $1,447.50 a tonne — still above Friday afternoon’s $1,413 — so most of Friday night’s spike was still in the refined print1.
Doorstep. HeizOel24: heating-oil prices in Germany and Austria “nearly unchanged”; Switzerland a bit softer1. Sunday night’s tanke-günstig national average for a 2,000-litre order was €177.59 per 100 litres2; do not assume Monday erased that.
Desk arithmetic (labelled). If Brent falls one dollar and gasoil does not, a 2,000-litre household order should not be expected to fall in lockstep. The binding number remains the written quote for your postcode.
Nothing here is advice to buy, wait or switch. It is a reminder that the barrel and the invoice are different documents.
What to watch
- HeizOel24 and tanke-günstig midday quotes versus ICE gasoil, not versus Brent alone.
- Whether a second quiet oil day finally pulls gasoil — and then domestic quotes — lower.
- Your own dealer's written offer for your postcode and volume; portals are averages.
A cheaper barrel is news. A cheaper delivery ticket is a household event.
