Gard and Hérault are orange — Tuesday's list is longer

Météo-France's 16:04 vigilance put three departments in orange today and eight tomorrow. Cumuls of 200–300 mm are the print; the advice is still: do not drive into water.

At 16:04 Paris time on Monday, Météo-France’s accessible vigilance listed Gard and Hérault in orange for rain-flood, storms and river rises, and Lozère in orange for rain-flood; thirteen departments were yellow1. For Tuesday the orange list lengthens to eight: Ardèche, Bouches-du-Rhône, Haute-Corse, Gard, Hérault, Lozère, Var and Vaucluse1.

The agency’s episode note expects intense thunderstorm rains from Monday into Tuesday, with possible hourly totals of 60–80 mm, gusts to 80 km/h, hail and strong lightning, and episode cumuls of order 200–250 mm, locally 300 mm, on eastern Hérault and the Gard2. On Tuesday the rains shift east toward Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Corsica2.

This is not a metaphor for climate politics. It is a public timetable: stay off submerged roads, avoid underpasses, follow prefecture instructions2. The constructive act tonight is local and dull — check the vigilance map before a journey, not after.

What to watch

  • The 06:00 and 16:00 vigilance updates Tuesday as the episode shifts east into PACA and Corsica.
  • Vigicrues flash alerts for communes under APIC.
  • Insured-loss tallies in the days after — the slow invoice of a Mediterranean episode.
Desk comment

Orange is a timetable for behaviour. Cumuls are the weather's own ledger.
